Pete the Puzzlesaurus
Many people mistakenly think the first jigsaw puzzle piece dates back to the 1760’s and puzzles fully emerged in the 1900’s, but actually the story goes a lot deeper. The first jigsaw puzzle piece dates back to prehistoric times – probably late Jurassic Period. It was first discovered on the backbone of a Puzzlesaurus. This has been a heavily guarded secret why it is not part of the dinosaurs we study today, so over the years this remains a conundrum. Puzzlesaurus was an extremely rare species, however, only a couple of them have been found. Being the puzzle lovers that we are, the JNG Team replicated a Puzzlesaurus we have fondly named Pete. Enjoy building your own 3-D Puzzlesauraus model as you imagine the great adventures Pete lived through during this time period as an herbivore devouring woody plant type materials. Was there some obscure flying creature preying on this type of Puzzlesaurus trying to connect his pieces? Wow! Who knows? Bury the little guy if you want the paleontologist in you to emerge, but most of all, have fun!
